Top Ten ecotourist hotspots

Everyone loves to travel…. and in today’s times there is nothing better than eco tourism…to enjoy the great outdoors and also show a little more concern towards the environment.

Recently MSNBC came up with its list of top ten eco tourist hot spots of the world, which I am sure no keen traveler will want to miss.

Here is a brief review of the spots and the ten best.

Alaska – It is not in vein that this land is also referred to as the Great Land. Here you can find some of the most amazing wild species that are I am sorry to note, all endangered. The bald eagle, the sea lions, blue whale caribou, moose. Thankfully here you can find area where the wild out number the social animal called humans.

Amazon – This place is surely in every eco tourists list owing to the remarkable rainforest that surrounds the world’s largest river system and supports thousands of plant, bird, mammal, and aquatic species in the 1.2 billion acres it occupies. The densest section of Amazon is found in Brazil and it is this place where you can actually walk along the treetops on bridges and see nature up close.

Antarctica – If you thought not many travel to this cold region. Thing again. Lat year there were almost 20,000 tourists who went to the region to witness glaciers, penguins, icebergs and whales.

Blue Mountains – If adventure is in your blodd this mountain trail is a sure visit for the next trip. Only about 90 minutes from Sydney the blue mountain area has amazing flora and fauna and the chance to do some Rock climbing, rappelling, and canoeing are just a few of the activities – aside from bushwalking.

Borneo – This Malaysian Island boasts of the slopes of Mount Kinabalu (South East Asia’s tallest mountain) and the dense forest trails of the Bario Loop. Mangroves and wetlands provide lush aquatic vistas; and the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre will make anyone go ape. For an all-out eco-friendly getaway, it’s hard to beat a stay at the award-winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge, a completely self-sufficient hotel subsisting on rainwater and solar energy.

Botswana – The savanna calling you here with the wild charm of the desert, revering forests, shallow lakes and of course wildlife. Elephant herds, leopards, lions, zebras, hippos, white rhinos, and chacma baboons are just some of the glorious creatures you will encounter here.

Costa Rica – This is one place where people have consciously gone back to the roots of nature and made the country one of the most eco tourist loved place. You will actually find everything here….active volcanoes, beaches, rainforest and hot springs. And if this was not enough there is also plenty of adventure with rafting, hiking, scuba diving, rock-climbing.
Dominica – it is called the nature Island of the Caribbean. Why? Because the island is visited by almost 40 –ton whales who like to play, socialize and mate here. This and the superb rainforest hiking trails, boiling lakes and some of the attractions of this island.

Galapagos islands - When Darwin visited these unspoiled islands 620 miles off the coast of Ecuador in 1835, he was so struck by the variation in life-forms he saw here that he went on to posit his theory of evolution. Even two centuries later, this incredible archipelago remains home to some of the planet’s most unique creatures – no wonder, then, that the chain was declared the world’s first Natural World Heritage Site in 1978 (it went on to become a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1984).

Himalayas – The highest mountain on earth is worth a visit if you really want to pay ode to God’s creation. Also worth watching here, the alpine forest and the mountain yaks.
