Reduce your carbon foot print
By now many of you must have already checked the amount of co2 you emit while performing your daily chores. If you are surprised by the high results, please read below to know how you can reduce your carbon foot print. For those who have got low results, I congratulate you and hope some of the points below can help you reduce your emission rate even more.
For those who are still wondering what is carbon foot print, please read my earlier articles in the series and once that is done, calculate your home or office emission and get back to this article for tips on reducing your carbon footprint.
It is really up to each and every member of this living planet, to take care of the mess they are creating.
Some good tips I gathered from different sites are,
1. Use CFLs – These are definitely better options to normal bulbs because they use four times less energy and last eight times longer.
2. Switch off appliances – If you are not using the electronic shaver, the mobile charger, television, stereo or the computer, please switch it off and also remove the plug. This simple act can help reduce a lot and lot of energy and also a lot of your electricity bill.
3. Energy efficient appliances – When opting for new appliances make sure they are energy efficient. Like a washing machine, dishwasher etc.
4. Stop heat escape – Your home heating system will be used a lot more if there is a leak or escape route from the attic, roof, door or window. Make sure these have been properly insulated.
5. Use less of vehicles – walking is not only a healthy habit but it also helps you preserve some of the fuel and reduces about quarter of the carbon emission. So if going to the nearby store, walk. If going to work, use car pool, if college, use the bicycle.
6. Go for hybrid cars – fuel efficient or alternative fuel using cars are the in thing. When buying a new car, see if you can get something even the earth is proud of.
7. Reduce air journeys – Airplanes are already one of the major source of emission of carbon di oxide. Cheap air travel may be good but thing of the disaster so many planes will be causing.
8. Reduce reuse recycle – the standard Rs can help curbing the emission problem in many ways. When you reuse something it does not go to the dump yard and you do not buy a new product that uses lot of energy and resources to be made in the first place.
9. Plant more trees – even if it is a small herb or shrub in your balcony, it can make a huge difference for the environment. Encourage children too to plant trees and respect the environment.
