FOOD -Buy Local/Grow your own
Reducing Co2 emissions, protecting our environment, saving fuel, reducing costs, insisting on quality and striving for a better world are all things we are working hard to do, it's just so difficult to get Governments and Industry to stop, look and listen to the earth, listen to the people.
One REALLY BIG way of reducing CO2 emissions etc is changing the food we eat. Yes, i know, this sounds strange, but it's a really powerful way of changing the environment.
Consider your trip to the local store. Look into your trolley. What have you purchased??
Items from China, Taiwan, Europe, Australia or from across the other side of the country.
Now, think of how they got to you. via Aeroplane, Boat, Truck or other forms of fuel driven transportation.
The CO2 emission these vehicles put out are excessive, but in these times are considered to be essential.
Now, think again of how they were made. In mass produced factories requiring huge amounts of energy to get the goods we all insist are necessary in our lives.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
The first thing - buy local. the closer the goods are manufactured, the less energy has been used.
Other ideas
- Grow your own vegetables
- Buy fresh produce from local markets
- Buy less manufactured goods, start cooking at home a bit more.
The fresher the goods, the less manufactured the goods, the LESS ENERGY was used to get them to you.
Before we go, I'm not expecting you to instantly go out and change everything with your food intake. Unless of course you feel you can handle it. I think most people though, will have to start off slow and build your way up to complete change after a while.
This will not only help the earth in a massive way, it could even help you to eat a bit healthier too.
Basically, no matter what way you look at it, it's WIN - WIN for everyone.
